Brendan Hunt Is Optimistic About Ted Lasso Season 5
In an interview with Deadline published October 7, Hunt shared his reaction to speculation about another season.
He expressed hope that the series would continue but acknowledged that he had not received official confirmation. His comments suggest that the creative team would welcome an opportunity to revisit the characters, although no final decision has been announced.
Hunt also discussed Jason Sudeikis, the show’s star and co-creator, noting that Sudeikis tends to keep his plans private. Hunt said he was not involved in any behind-the-scenes discussions that might determine the show’s future.
The actor added that the team had hoped to tell more than one chapter of the story beyond its original plan. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that Season 4 could also serve as a satisfying conclusion. <Cite refs={(“turn631903search0″,”turn631903search4”)}/>
What Happened in the Ted Lasso Season 4 Finale?
Warning: Spoilers for the Season 4 finale ahead.
The Season 4 finale, titled Being Alive, delivered significant changes for AFC Richmond and its coaching staff. The episode concluded on October 7, 2026, leaving viewers with several possible directions for the characters.
Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, stepped down as head coach of the women’s team, the Lady Greyhounds. He handed the leadership role to Alice Chilton, played by Tanya Reynolds, and moved into an assistant coaching position alongside Coach Beard.
Meanwhile, Roy Kent, portrayed by Brett Goldstein, accepted an offer to manage Chelsea FC. His professional move creates new questions about his relationship with Keeley Jones, played by Juno Temple, as the couple prepares to welcome their first child.
Rebecca Welton, played by Hannah Waddingham, also took a major step in her personal life by proposing to Matthijs. These developments gave several characters new beginnings while leaving room for future stories. <Cite refs={(“turn631903search0″,”turn631903search7”)}/>
Could Season 5 Explore New Stories at AFC Richmond?
If Apple TV orders another season, the series has several storylines it could explore. Hunt identified a number of developments that interest him, including Ted and Beard working as equals, Roy and Keeley becoming parents, and Rebecca’s future after her engagement.
The leadership transition at the Lady Greyhounds also offers an opportunity to develop Alice as the team’s manager. Viewers could see how the players respond to her leadership and how Ted adjusts to a supporting role.
However, Hunt emphasized that these possibilities remain unanswered questions rather than confirmed plans for a new season. <Cite refs={(“turn631903search0″,”turn631903search4”)}/>
Why the Future of Ted Lasso Remains Uncertain
When Ted Lasso first gained popularity, its creators envisioned a story spanning three seasons. The series eventually returned for Season 4, expanding its world through the introduction of the women’s football team.
Although the latest finale leaves opportunities for additional storytelling, there is no official Season 5 renewal or release date as of October 9, 2026. Fans should therefore treat speculation about a new season as unconfirmed.
The show’s future will depend on decisions by Apple TV and the creative team, including Sudeikis and Hunt.
What Fans Can Expect Next
For now, Ted Lasso viewers will have to wait for an official announcement. Brendan Hunt’s optimism offers encouragement, but it does not guarantee that the Apple TV comedy will return.
With new coaching roles, changing relationships, and unanswered questions surrounding AFC Richmond, a fifth season could explore an entirely new chapter if the series receives the green light.
Until then, fans can revisit the show’s existing episodes and watch for updates from Apple TV and the cast.
